If there was a crack in the stock, naturally it would lower the price, it can be fixed. This gun is 63 years old with the original finish, not many around that old that aren't re-finished. Don't go by what some are asking, just for what they sold for. Look at some of the auction sites and see what they are getting. I'm sticking with the original price I gave. This gun is from left over inventory from Hunter Arms when they were bought out by Marlin, and assembled by the L.C. The barrels on a Field Grade were rust blued just enough to give them color, imperfections in color were there. The case color on the receiver is 98%, can't see the wood to give you any condition. In order to give you a good value on your gun you have to post some pictures that aren't so dark. I can't see the percentage of blue on the barrels but if 98% blue and no major dings on barrels and stock it could go for up to $2,000 if a 16 ga., I don't think it is a 20 ga., but if it is about the same or a little higher. Value is hard to determine but in this condition that I see (pictures kind of dark). All were proof tested and the ones without the nitro proof on the barrels water table were tested at the factory with a double load of powder. Most of these guns in this grade, Field Grade, were hardware store guns and most came through wilth full/full chokes unless ordered different. Smith Gun Co.from unfinished guns when Hunter Arms left. and those guns started with serial number FW Sxxxx in 1946. Your gun is I believe a transitional gun from 1945-1946 when Hunter Arms was going bankcrupt and Marlin took them over in 1945. Side plates have a lot of case color left to them. It has the Single sighting plane (top rib) which was an option in 1939 ($5.00) but then standard for 1940.
